Blues with a twist from award-winning Bex Marshall

UK British Blues Award-winner Bex Marshall and her band will be Monroe’s Live on Thursday, May 19.  Bex plays explosive slide rock and ragtime guitar, incorporating roots music and bluegrass in her sets as she aims to explore blues music to its fullest reaches. She describes her live show as “fearless”. Her lyrics, meanwhile, are reflections on life and love with plenty of humour.

Bex was nominated to the top three in Best Solo/Acoustic Artist 2015 in the European Blues Awards and won a gong at the UK’s Blues Awards 2013 for Best British Blues Vocalist and album – for The House of Mercy. She has toured the USA three times and also undertaken extensive tours of Australia, UK and Europe – all in under three years. Bex got to number 13 in the USA UK artists chart and number 20 in the USA national Americana Music Association Chart.

She is now sponsored by the legendary guitar maker Chris Eccleshall who has built guitars for Eric Clapton, Rory Gallagher and David Bowie.

In addition to music, Bex has always had a passion for travelling. She trained as croupier at 18, beginning her travels working gaming tables on cruise liners – she even dealt illegal poker games in Amsterdam. She later hitch-hiked the coast of Australia on cattle trains, always with a guitar on her back.

With those credentials, this is true blues, raucous and real.

Doors for her gig on May 19 are at 9pm and admission free.
