City based Blue Teapot Theatre Company travels to Dublin next week to participate in the national finals of Ulster Banks Business Achievers’ Awards.

The group has been nominated for the Social Entrepreneurship category in the national black-tie event to be held in the Mansion House on Wednesday next. This follows Blue Teapot’s recent win in the Connacht finals. The Dublin event will be hosted by RTÉ’s Bryan Dobson.

Company member Kieran Coppinger (of Mervue), and his mother Edith will be attending the event alongside Petal Pilley (director) and Kathy Murphy, (administrator) of Blue Teapot. Kieran has been a member of Blue Teapot since 2004, performing in events and productions in front of national and international audiences.

He was “gobsmacked” when the company won the regional award.

“I couldn’t believe it. It’s a great achievement for us.” And he says he’s really excited about the trip to Dublin saying “I’ll do them proud”.

“We feel like we have already won,” says Blue Teapot’s director Petal Pilley. “Being recognised for the work our company does is such an honour. We are in excellent company in our category and are excited to get a chance to meet more of the national social businesses that are making a difference in our country.”

Blue Teapot is made up of adult actors who have learning disabilities and the company is committed to providing top class productions while bringing a positive change in public attitudes, simply by allowing members’ talent to shine through.

Now in its fourteenth year Blue Teapot is currently in rehearsal for its upcoming production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, due to open in June.
