BLOW TO BALLINFOILE COMMUNITY CENTRE AS BUILDER PULLS OUT
Date Published: 22-Aug-2012
The development of a 2 million euro community centre in the Headford Road area of the city, has been dealt a major blow. (22/08)
Plans for the Ballinfoile Community Centre, which have been 25 years in the making, now face further prolonged delays, as the city council’s preferred building contractors have pulled out.
The project, which is to be built opposite the Tesco store, got the go ahead from the city council earlier in the year and construction was due to start in February.
The council will now look to the next bidder to get the project underway which is set to consist of three meeting rooms, a playground, multi purpose space, changing rooms and offices.
Local councillor and Chairman of the RAPID community development programme, Frank Fahy says it’s unacceptable that a generation has grown up in the area without community facilities.
