Blistering start puts paid to United

A SCINTILLATING first half hour from Derry City, in which they scored all four goals and destroyed a poor Galway United with some wonderful movement and imagination, ensured maximum return for the Candystripes in Terryland Park on Friday night.
Goals from Gareth McGlynn, Mark Farren, Niall McGinn and Thomas Stewart condemned United to their seventh home league defeat of the season and leave them still searching for their maiden league victory Corribside.
City broke the deadlock after only five minutes had elapsed and in truth it was no surprise. All year long United have been susceptible to conceding early, and this time the man to benefit was McGlynn, thanks to a terrible goalkeeping gaffe.
Farren picked up possession 25 yards from goal and threaded a sweet pass into the feet of McGlynn on the left side of the area. His weak shot should not have troubled Alvin Rouse but the goalkeeper somehow managed to fumble into the back of his net at the near post.
The Candystripes doubled their lead after 22 minutes, this time through top-scorer Farren. Kevin Deery picked up possession in the full-back position and sailed a wonderful pass for McGinn over his immediate opponent. McGinn charged to the end line and fired a neat square-ball to the near……
