Bish claim Junior 8+ crown for fourth consecutive year

St Joseph’s College (the Bish) once again underlined its credentials in the water when claiming the All-Ireland School’s Junior 8+ title for the fourth consecutive year last weekend.

The crew travelled to O’Brien’s Bridge in Limerick on Sunday to defend the crown they had won in each of the last three years, but with a young crew and not a lot of racing experience under their belts due to floods and high flows on the Corrib, The Bish Junior 8+ were rank outsiders to retain their title.

However, in a testament to the crew and their coaches, the hard work that had been done all winter in the gym and on the Corrib when the chance presented itself paid off and the Bish defended their crown in great style, beating their nearest rivals comprehensively by a two-length margin.

The winning crew was Óisín Cusack, Tom Dillon, Brian Keane, Christian Killeen, Colin Moran, Brion O’Rourke, Conor Ostheimer and Keith Russell, and Darragh O’Donovan (cox).
