Billionaire Comer family behind new Athenry ‘town centre’
The billionaire Comer family have drawn up plans for a new Lidl supermarket, offices and more than 90 new homes alongside Athenry House.
Ghost Zapper Ltd, which is owned by the property developers who are originally from Glenamaddy, has sought permission to develop a three-hectare site adjacent to the town centre.
Lidl have already come on board as the anchor tenant of the new development, which will also include 74 apartments and 18 houses, seven retail units, a creche and a Costa Coffee outlet.
The late 18th century Athenry House will be fully restored for office use, and the adjacent mews has been incorporated into the design.
The original estate gates will also be retained, with a public square to be created immediately inside, and there will be a new vehicular entrance from Swan Gate.
“The proposal includes the development of a Lidl supermarket near the pedestrian entrance to the town centre, with further commercial accommodation provided in and around the supermarket, making it a commercial hub.
