Big boost for United as O’Shea stays

GALWAY United received a boost to their pre-season preparations, on the pitch at least, with the news that midfielder Jay O’Shea is to remain at the club after his proposed €375,000 move to Derby County collapsed yesterday.
Both clubs had agreed terms prior to Christmas and O’Shea had agreed personal terms with Derby County and then manager Paul Jewell. However, Jewell resigned in December, and new manager Nigel Clough asked O’Shea to return for a second trial.
O’Shea played in a reserve match against Aston Villa thisweek, but it was announced yesterday that the proposed transfer was off, with United issuing a statement which stated that “Derby County have told the player that due to a deterioration in the financial situation at the club they are unable to complete the signing”.
