Belated Christmas present as little Liam makes it home at last
Clonberne toddler Liam Mac an tSaoi finally left Crumlin Children’s Hospital yesterday at lunchtime – the only home he has known since he was born.
A serious virus had delayed his discharge in time for Christmas but the family were given a house by a Good Samaritan in Dublin so they be together for the first time in four years for the holiday period.
After years of heartbreaking setbacks, his mother Louise was pinching herself that the long wait to bring Liam home was finally over.
“We’re here now waiting for the ambulance, it should be here in the next few minutes, he’s alright to go, he got over his virus and he’s back to his normal levels,” explained Louise.
Liam will be cared for in an isolated room in University Hospital Galway for a number of weeks before he is transferred to the specially adapted home the family moved into last year.
“We’re going to be in UHG for a few weeks so he can get used to the nurses and they can get used to them. He’ll get to go home for the first time for a few hours before he moves home for good, hopefully at the end of January.”
