Behind closed doors
THE Galway summer racing festival is set to go ahead in 2020. . . but not as we know it.
If circumstances allow, the Galway Race Committee are planning to stage the popular festival behind closed doors this summer.
The decision is in response to public health and safety issues caused by the continuing impact of the coronavirus
It’s a major disappointment for the thousands of racing and holiday pilgrims who make the annual trip to Ballybrit for one of the country’s most iconic sporting events.
In the 150-years of the Galway Races, it will be the first time that the general public will be unable to attend.
