‘Bedsit’ the latest in Enda Walsh’s ‘Rooms’ series

The latest in Enda Walsh’s ‘Rooms’ series for Galway international Arts Festival will go on display from September 6-18.

‘Bedsit’ is the eighth of these immersive theatre installations, written by the acclaimed playwright and designed by the Artistic Director of the Galway International Arts Festival, Paul Fahy.

In this new work, which features the voice of actress Ruth McCabe, a woman lives her day as she lives it most days. Nothing of great significance will happen to her – but at least she’s living.

As she says: “I’m up and about and living again without realising that that’s what I’m doing.”

All seven previous ‘Rooms’ premiered at the Arts Festival, including Room 303, A Girl’s Bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom, Office 33A, Waiting Room and Changing Room.

These atmospheric pieces have featured the voices of some of Ireland’s leading actors, including Niall Buggy, Charlie Murphy, Eileen Walsh, Paul Reid, Donal O’Kelly, Aoife Duffin and Marty Rea.

Each ‘Room’ is presented as 15-minute immersive piece and Bedsit is no exception. For each showing, the audience (with restrictions for 2021 due to Covid), is invited to step inside to explore the intimate space before a recorded audio begins and the story is told.
