Barry remanded on new charges

A Galway City man who is charged with assaulting two Gardai and two other people appeared before Galway District Court yesterday.
Gerard Barry (29) with an address at Túr Uisce, Doughiska is charged with assaulting Garda Jason Kelly and Sergeant John McElroy on March 31, 2007 after he was arrested on Eyre Square.
He also faces charges of intoxication in a public place, abusive and threatening behaviour and failure to comply the directions of a garda on the same date.
A further charge against Barry is in respect of the alleged contravention of a Protection Order on August 16, 2007 at 65 Clareview Park, while he is also charged with assaulting a male and female on August 3, 2007 at 91 Claremont Park, Bishop O’Donnell Road.
At the court sitting yesterday, solicitor for Barry, Ms Olivia Traynor requested an order be made for statements and a date be scheduled for hearing in relation to the charges.
Barry will appear before the court again on November 18.
