Ballinasloe psychiatric unit dispute to go to Labour Relations Commission
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Psychiatric Nurses Association is to seek the intervention of the Labour Relations Commission in its bid to progress talks over the planned closure of St.
Brigid’s psychiatric unit in Ballinasloe.
The 22 acute bed ward will be wound down later this year and will instead be used to provide enhanced community based mental health care.
A meeting of five trade unions took place in Merlin Park last evening with HSE management.
The group argued that there was a lack of consultation surrounding the decision to close the facility.
It has now referred the matter to the LRC.
Des Kavanagh of the PNA says members have also been advised not to cooperate with any plan to implement the proposal.
