Date Published: 11-Aug-2009
A world-renowned surgeon and NUI Galway graduate has been chosen to headline Ireland’s largest surgical conference at the university next month.
Ballinasloe native Dr Patrick Gullane, who graduated from NUIG in 1970, is recognised globally as a leader in head and neck cancer surgery.
He’ll deliver the 34th Sir Peter Freyer Memorial Lecture, named after the famous surgeon from Clifden, on Friday September 4th.
His brother Tomás runs Gullane’s Hotel in Ballinasloe and Patrick is now based in Toronto, where he has written eight books on head and neck surgery and has lectured as a visiting professor in 42 countries.
NUI Galway’s Oliver McAnena is co-hosting the national conference with Professor Michael Kerin.
