Ballinasloe Municipal District sells 12 serviced sites to Scoil Uí Chearthearnaigh

Galway Bay fm newsroom – 24 local authority owned serviced sites at Garbally Drive in Ballinasloe are to be sold to Scoil Uí Chearthearnaigh.
Ballinasloe Municipal District members have approved the agreement.
The Town Council had purchased the lands in 1999 and the 12 sites concerned were to be used for affordable housing under a proposal drawn up in 2006.
However this failed to materialise due to the economic downturn.
In May this year, Scoil Uí Chearthearnaigh submitted a proposal to use the sites for parking and amenity purposes.
At the Town Council’s final meeting, members agreed to dispose of the sites for almost 10 thousand euro.
This approach was approved by the Municipal District members this month following a proposal from Sinn Fein Cllr Demot Connolly.
He says the plan will now go forward to county council level.
