Ballinasloe mourns

Ballinasloe lost one of its most senior citizens and very popular business men last week in the person of Paul Dooley, Duneeda.

Born in 1910, one of ten children to Pat and Margaret Dooley, Paul was to the foremost of nearly every achievement in his beloved town of Ballinasloe.

From a very early age he became involved in the family business which was set up by his parents in 1898 – the landmark Dooleys Corner House pub and grocery business, at the junction of Dunlo Street and Dunlo Hill.

With great assistance from his sister Gertie and his late brother and sister, Tommy and Nellie, Paul continued in the business up to a few short years ago.

But Dooleys Corner House was more than a pub and grocery.

It was the hub of many meetings where Paul’s ideas about the betterment of Ballinasloe were hatched out.
