BALLINASLOE MAN TO BE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT

A probation report is due to be carried out on a 24 year old Ballinasloe man before he is sentenced for sexually assaulting a female taxi driver in Mayo last year.

Cathal Kelly, Streamsfort, Woodlawn, Ballinasloe, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the woman on July 5 2008 at 2.45am.

Defence solicitor Brendan Donnelly told the court that his client had been out celebrating and didn’t remember the incident but took full responsibility for his actions.

Judge Mary Devins told the court that “regardless of how drunk he was he still violated a woman.

She remanded Kelly on bail until June 16 for a probation report.
