Ballinasloe hosts annual Larry Reynolds Festival
The annual Larry Reynolds Festival takes place in Ballinasloe this weekend. Events this Friday evening will include a concert with Mícheál and MacDara Ó Raghallaigh in Gibbons’ Pillar Bar at 8.30pm. At 10pm there will be sessions in the Pillar House and Clarke’s Dunlo Tavern.
A Crafters Village will run from 11am-5pm this Saturday in the Library car-park. This will include butter-making, weaving, wood-turning, tin-smiths, basket-weaving, blacksmithing and more.
Musicians can avail of workshops from 11am-2pm. These include Fiddle (Mick Conneely), Flute (Céin Sweeney), Concertina (Jack Talty), Button Accordion (Daithí Gormley) Banjo (Páraic Mac Donnchadha) and Bodhrán (Martin Gavin) The workshops will take place in the school hall at Scoil an Chroí Naofa, with registration from 10.30am.
At 2pm this Saturday, Sean Maloney will be in Ballinasloe Library to give a talk on the East Galway style of music.
At 2.30pm there will be a free open-air concert with Troda, made up of Eamonn Nugent on bodhrán, Kevin Meehan on whistles and Jack Warnock on guitar and vocals. That will be in the Library car-park.
The 2019 Open All-Ireland U-18 Fiddle competition will be held at 4pm in the School Hall.
Later, at 6.30pm, in the Auld Sod, there will be CD launch for Dylan Carlos (fiddle), Céin Sweeney (flute) and John McCartin (guitar) followed by a session.
