Ballinasloe folk club hosts top Irish acts
The recently formed Ballinasloe Pillar House Folk Club, which has already hosted performers of the calibre of Sean Keane, Mick Hanley, Eleanor Shanley and Paddy Casey, will welcome Declan Sinnott and Vickie Keating to the venue on Friday, November 14, while singer Mundy will perform there on the following Friday, November 21.
Declan Sinnott was a founder member of the legendary Horslips in the early 1970s, and a member of Moving Hearts during the 1980s. As a producer, he worked with Mary and Frances Black and, during a 13-year, six-album association, he toured the world with Mary Black. He has also worked with Christy Moore for a 30-year period, since appearing on Christy Moore’s 1984 Ride On album.
At recent concerts with Christy Moore Declan performed songs including Corrina, Corrina, St Louis Blues, Lord Franklin. Declan’s latest album is I Love the Noise it Makes.
On November 21 Mundy will make his debut appearance in Ballinasloe. This will be a standing-room only gig and advance demand has been brisk.
Like The Frames and Rodrigo y Gabriela, Mundy began his career busking in Dublin before he went on to become an established artist during the 1990s. His mainly acoustic, folk-based pop/rock has seen him compared to Damien Rice and Josh Ritter but his style is more upbeat and celebratory. His radio hits July and Mexico are set to feature during his Pillarhouse show.
Tickets for both gigs are €20 and available from The Pillar House, Society Street, Ballinasloe. Tel: 090 96 43939. www.thepillarhouse.ie Advance booking is recommended.
