THE opening of two new stores and a state of the art night club over the next couple of weeks, as well as the commencement of construction work on a four-screen cinema, promises to kick-start the economy in Ballinasloe, despite the current recessionary climate.

Besides the pending opening of new Aldi and Tesco branches, and an exciting new night club venue in the landmark East County Hotel, the town has received a further boost with the granting of planning permission for a massive new neighbourhood centre on a site adjacent to the Shearwater Hotel.

Planning approval is also anticipated shortly for a mixed use retail/commercial development at Hill of Back, on a peninsula of land to the north east of Main Street and River Street.

These multi million euro developments are expected to create several hundred jobs in the town over the coming months.

Discount retailer Aldi are due to open their latest store on Thursday September 3rd on a site which is being developed by local property developer Paddy Delaney, who trades as Brackernagh property Developments Ltd.
