The work done in Ballinasloe in recent weeks to help reduce the risk of flooding has been praised by town councillors at a meeting of the Town Council.

Town engineer Adrian Head gave an account of the work done on cleaning drains and culverts, as well as opening new water courses to alleviate upstream flooding from the River Suck.

He explained that water levels upstream are being monitored daily and preparatory works had begun on the construction of a wall between homes in Derrymullen and the River Suck.
