The time has come for swift action to tackle the rise in rural burglaries across County Galway.

That’s according to Ballinasloe Area Cllr Kevin Ryan who says recent figures provided to the Joint Policing Committee show a 22 percent rise in burglaries in the county from January to November.

He says people no longer feel safe in their homes and swift action is needed to stamp out this form of crime.

Speaking on Galway Talks, he says many raiders are targetting rural Galway homes for gold.

He’s calling for the introduction of tighter legislation.
