Baile an Salsa celebrate launch of new crowd-funded album
The 10-piece trad and salsa fusion that is Baile An Salsa will play Monroe’s Live on Saturday, February 10. When the Tribune last spoke to the band’s percussionist Brian Ferguson in August, the band were in the middle of a crowd-funding campaign for their second album, Ériu.
“We hit our full target about a week before deadline so we were absolutely buzzing about that,” Brian says of the campaign.
“It shows us the kind of support that’s out there for our project, which is very reassuring and humbling too. So, all of our funders will be receiving their albums and pledge benefits after the launch on February 10 which is right on schedule.”
As well as making their record, Baile An Salsa also played at the Philadelphia Folk Festival last year.
“That was a brilliant experience,” Brian says. “It felt a bit like a modern-day Woodstock with a crazy colourful camping area filled with sculptures, costumes and tenting areas full of characters all out for a good time. The band did great there and we went down a storm amongst a very folky arty crowd who wouldn’t have expected a Salsa style band to be there! It was a lot of fun!”
Led by singer Andres Martorell, Baile An Salsa have put in the hard graft to get Ériu made. The show should be a real celebration of a unique band. Doors 10pm, tickets €10.
