Awesome Athenry
Date Published: 08-Nov-2007
WHAT can be said! Hats off to glorious Athenry for their outstanding performance of camogie artistry to brush aside the challenge of mighty St. Lachtain’s of Freshford in a pulsating All-Ireland club senior semi-final in Ballinasloe last Saturday.
Athenry were simply magnificent on the day.
They never once fell behind to the reigning All-Ireland champions and, indeed, the best St. Lachtain’s could achieve over the course of the contest was gain parity on two occasions early in the first-half.
Otherwise, Athenry were always in control, underlined by the fact that they did not concede asingle score from play in the opening 40 minutes.
By this stage, St. Lachtain’s tally was a measly four points — all of which came from frees converted by their star forward Imelda Kennedy — while Athenry boasted an impressive score of 2-7.
No doubt…….
