Donegal outfit In Their Thousands bring a fresh sound to Irish music, with a catalogue ranging from subtle, folksy numbers that veer between Mumford and Sons and Devendra Banhart to indie tracks that evoke bands like Alt-J and Django Django.

The band, formed by brothers Aidan and Declan McClafferty in 2011, have released four EPs to critical acclaim, and were victorious in the 2FM Hot Press ‘Play on the Day’ competition in 2012. Their first EP was home recorded, while the band progressed to Attica Recording Studios for the recording of the second EP, Cellars, which they recorded with Tommy Mc Laughlin of Villagers.

With songwriting and vocal duties being shared by all four band members and a diverse approach to music, In Their Thousands are one of the most exciting and interesting Irish groups to have emerged in recent years.

Their sound has won praise from critics, with Hot Press editor Niall Stokes describing them as having “huge international potential”.

Following a tour of Germany and the United Kingdom, In Their Thousands now come West for a show at Monroe’s Live, Galway this Sunday, April, 20.

Party band Raindance will play current hits and pop classics until late afterwards.

Tickets cost €7 on www.monroes.ie or €10 on the door on the night. Doors open at 9pm.
