Award-winners a mix of fresh and familiar faces

There were seven winners of the 2021 Town Hall Theatre Patron Donation Awards, which support the work of Galway-based artists, companies and producers.  The seven received funds ranging from €4,000 to €8,000.

David Joyce’s award will allow him to develop a new play, and likewise for Eimear Finan while Eileen Gibbons’ will help her to complete a work in development. Kristyn Fontanella’s is to develop a new traditional dance piece and Maria Auletta’s to develop a theatre show for children.  Ollie Jennings received funding to develop a musical theatre production and Páraic Breathnach to develop an Irish language production.  In addition to the financial bursary, all winners will have access rehearsal/development space in the Town Hall Theatre and mentoring support.

“It is envisioned that the successful applicants will develop their work within the Town Hall Theatre and be supported by the organisation to bring their work to the next stage,” explained the venue’s Director Fergal McGrath.

Town Hall Theatre had guaranteed a minimum fund of €12,000 in 2020, thanks to donations from its patrons. With the support of the Arts Council, that increased to €32,000 this year, an amount that, he said, reflected the calibre of the submissions – there were 17 in total.
