Aviva has given a commitment that the company intends to maintain a presence in its Galway, Cork and Dublin operations.

In a letter issued to TDs and Senators this afternoon, CEO Dermot Browne of Aviva Ireland says changes to its Irish and European operations would affect up to 950 jobs.

This morning the company confirmed the news to its 2000 strong workforce at Galway, Dublin and Cork.

It says it’s part of a structural review to make its Irish business part of a new UK and Ireland region.

The cuts will take effect from next March, but the company has stopped short of telling staff where exactly the jobs will be lost.

AVIVA has confirmed that it hopes to achieve as many of the potential redundancies through voluntary means.

Unite trade Union has organised to meet with the 200 staff who work at the Galway call centre in Knocknacarra tomorrow evening.
