Insurance company Aviva is being urged to brief staff on its restructuring plans which has led to speculation over hundreds of job losses.

Unions say management have told them a review is ongoing and are unwilling to confirm any number of job losses.

There are fears for up to 500 jobs, roughly a quarter of the insurance workforce, as the company looks to restructure its European business.

The company employs up to 200 people at its call centre in Knocknacarra in the city and around 10 staff at the Eyre Square branch.

Unite Trade union spokesperson, Rob Hartnett says staff morale is low and Aviva needs to communicate with them.
