Autumn treats in store with Primal Scream and Chic
It might feel like festival season is winding down, but there’s a hell of a weekend coming up in October. Primal Scream play Leisureland and Chic return to Galway for a gig the following evening.
On Saturday, October 26, Primal Scream play Leisureland. Led by the charismatic Glaswegian Bobby Gillespie, the Scream made one of the 1990s most iconic albums with 1991’s Screamadelica.
In 2011, the album’s 20th birthday was celebrated with an arena tour that took in Dublin’s 02 and a rapturously received Glastonbury appearance. Primal Scream are no one-trick ponies, however, as they proved with the sublime Vanishing Point (1997), XTRMNTR (2000) and this year’s More Light.
And fans of disco should get their dancing shoes ready for Chic’s return to Galway on Sunday, October 27, when the group play the Radisson.
Since he was last in Galway to play the 2012 Arts Festival, Nile Rodgers has had yet another massive hit in a career littered with them. Chic’s band leader and guitarist helped to pen Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, the most streamed song ever on Spotify.
Nile Rodgers also co-wrote hits like Madonna’s Like a Virgin, Upside Down by Diana Ross, Bowie’s Let’s Dance and We Are Family by Sister Sledge. With bassist Bernard Edwards, he came up with iconic Chic tunes including Dance, Dance, Dance, Good Times and the irresistible Le Freak.
Chic are simply unmissable. Before his Festival show here last year, Nile Rodgers spoke to the Groove Tube about why his passion for playing remains after more than 40 years on the road.
“Whenever I’m on stage, every show is Woodstock, every girl is a supermodel, and every payday is a fortune!’.”
