Auction records €3m worth of home sales

Around €3 million worth of sales were recorded at the O’Donnellan & Joyce ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ auction at the weekend.

The property was the holiday home of Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Barry O’Sullivan, who decided to donate the funds, while the auctioneers also waived their fees. The purchaser wishes to remain anonymous.

Highlights of the afternoon included a two-bed apartment at Cúirt Seoige in Bohermore which sold at €170,000 (AMV €160,000); a two-bed unit in the Eyre Square Apartments for €205,000 (AMV €185,000); a three-bed semi-detached maisonette in Glasán, Ballybane for €134,000 (AMV €105,000) and a three-bed semi at Seacrest, Knocknacarra sold for €195,000, which was the AMV.

At Colmcille Road in Shantalla, a semi-detached house converted into two self-contained apartments sold for €182,000. The AMV was €175,000.

At Tyrur in Newbridge, a partially-completed two-storey residence on 1.2 acres near Mountbellew sold at its AMV of €45,000.

At Abbey Road in Abbeyknockmoy, a detached three-bed cottage-style house with an AMV of €32,000 ended up selling for €75,000.

In Cornarone East in Inverin, a family home on a 0.8-acre site with a large forecourt sold for €220,000. The AMV was €180,000.

A detached single storey building at Brackernagh in Ballinasloe, which was formerly a butcher training academy had an AMV and sold for €100,000.

On the Ballygaddy Road in Tuam, a three-bed mid-terraced house sold for €74,000 (AMV €65,000), while the adjoining property sold for €67,000 (AMV €65,000).

The final lot of the day was a block of 4 one-bed apartments at Fortlands Meadows in Loughrea, with two apartments on the ground floor and two on the first floor.

Bidding opened at the AMV of €245,000 and it sold for €300,000 after 14 bids.

Auctioneers Colm O’Donnellan said: “We’re absolutely delighted to wrap up 2016, which saw over 300 properties being sold at auction, beating the 2015 auction sales results.

“2016 saw enormous interest from mainly local investors and first time buyers. Overseas buyers, just like 2015, also recognised the incredible value that was on offer especially in rural areas,” he said.
