Attendance at Day 2 of the Galway Races Summer Festival was down by more than 3,450 people on last year.

It’s the second day in a row that figures were down at Ballybrit, with the dismal weather to blame for the drop off.

Punters were also keeping their hands in their pockets, with the bookies’ turnover down by more than €370,000 on the same day last year.

A total of 15,030 people passed through the turnstiles today, down 3,452 (almost one-fifth) on the 18,678 people in Ballybrit for Day 2 last year.

The bookmakers’ turnover today was €946,982, down €376,351 (28%) on the €1,323,333 taken last year, while the Tote was down 4% from €889,600 to €852,933.
