A GANG who raided an in-store ATM machine at a Ballinasloe supermarket last weekend got away with a substantial amount of cash – understood to be a six-figure sum.

The raiders struck in the early hours of Saturday morning last gaining entry to the Tesco supermarket at Dunlo Town Centre by forcing a side door of the premises.

Detectives investigating the robbery believe that the heist was carried out between 2am and 4am with the entire contents of the ATM machine being seized by the gang.

Although CCTV footage of the raid is being examined by Gardaí, the male gang involved in the operation – possibly up to four people – all wore balaclavas.

Gardaí believe that the raid was well planned with the gang making a quick exit via a waiting car – possibly in the direction of Dublin.
