Galway Bay fm newsroom – Athenry recorded the wettest day in all of Ireland last month.

Figures released by Met Eireann show the area had the highest rainfall on August 1st as just over 30 millimetres.

Data examining the three-month summer period shows that the majority of stations had their driest summer in seven years.

July had the warmest conditions with nine stations reporting heatwave conditions from the 7th to the 13th.

Seamus Walsh is a Climatologist with Met Eireann and says the Athenry August rainfall came at the end of a warm and humid spell.
