An Athenry man was sentenced to 8 months in prison yesterday for a string of offences, including evading arrest.

32 year old Joseph Jennings, with addresses in Tysaxon, Athenry and Rahylin Glebe, Galway, had not turned up in court in 2005 to answer charges of drunken driving, dangerous driving and driving without insurance in 2004.

Jennings gave a false name and date of birth to Garda Ray Quinn who found him doing hand brake turns while drunk in an uninsured car in December 2004.

He evaded the law ever since.

Jennings was finally tracked down last week, where Judge Mary Fahy remanded him in custody for one week.

Judge Fahy sentenced Jennings to a total of eight months in prison on all charges and disqualified him from driving for three years.
