ATHENRY GEARS UP FOR PAUL HESSION’S OLYMPIC SEMI-FINAL
Date Published: 19-Aug-2008
Excitement is mounting in Athenry in advance of local sprinter Paul Hessions’ bid to make the Olympic final of the men’s 200 metre in Bei-jing today.
Athenry’s athletic hero might not hear the cheers and cries which will ring out this afternoon around the fields of Athenry when he runs in the men’s 200m semi-final, but neighbours, friends and colleagues in Athenry Athletic Club are with him all the way, willing him to secure a place in tomorrow’s Olympic final.
In the build-up to the big moment at 2.25 (Irish time) this afternoon, members of Athenry Athletic Club, along with Paul’s neighbours and friends are gathering in Dan’s Bar, North Gate Street, Athenry, from 2 p.m onwards to watch Paul’s semi-final race, on a big screen.
Athenry people, working in the city, are invited to join other members of Athenry Athletic Club for the thrilling race in a special get-together too at the Huntsman’s Bar from 2 p.m. onwards.
