Specialist contractors have been sent into a nursing home in Connemara following the discovery of an asbestos product in parts of the roof.
The HSE West has confirmed that the products were discovered in Áras Mhic Dara in Carraroe while a survey was being carried out prior to refurbishment works at the home.
The Health Services Executive in the West has been allocated €200,000 to bring Áras Mhic Dara up to the standards that are required for Nursing Homes.
However, a survey showed that an asbestos building product was discovered in what are described as isolated areas of the roof space.
In a statement the HSE. said that a specialist removal contractor has been engaged to remove this material.
This asbestos removal work is currently in progress and is being overseen by an independent asbestos analyst.
The statement said there is no impact on the operation of the nursing home or on the residents in the home.
