Arrest ‘imminent’ over Eyre Square fireworks incident
From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Gardaí are understood be ‘very close’ to a breakthrough arrest over the Eyre Square fireworks incident last week that has left a young city student with life-changing injuries.
Following an extensive trawl of CCTV and video footage – and an investigation that has also focused on the Dublin area – the arrest of the main suspect is now considered to be imminent, the Galway City Tribune has learned.
The victim of the assault – a 19-year-old student from the city area – is still being treated at UHG for what have been described as life-changing injuries. She was struck with the firework in the face as she sat at a bus-stop in Eyre Square.
The horror incident – which has drawn widespread condemnation from local community and public representatives – has left the victim with major facial injuries including serious damage to one of her eyes.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to the Galway City Tribune last evening that they were pursuing a definite line of inquiry into the incident which occurred shortly after 12am on the Thursday night of October 21 last.
“We have received great co-operation from everyone in our investigation of this case and we are pursuing a definite line of inquiry. We expect to make an arrest shortly in the case,” said the Garda spokesman.
