Army of applications for Utd post

THE deadline for applications for the position of Galway United manager closed this week, with 32 “genuine” expressions of interest in the position having been received by the club.
The club is remaining tightlipped on the identity of those who have applied for the job in a bid to ensure there is no repeat of two years ago,when Tribune Sport revealed the names of the five people — including eventual appointee Tony Cousins — who applied and were in the running for the position.
That caused a furore in the club, with Nick Leeson, the then Commercial Manager of the club, having to embark on a series of ‘fire fighting’ meetings as a number of those applicants were angered their interest had made it into the public domain.
Two applicants have gone on the record about their desire forthe position this time around — former Irish international, Jeff Kenna; and Patrick Walker, who played with Bohemians in the 1980s and most recently has been involved in management in Sweden.
However,Walker ruled himself out of the running this week, claiming in an interview with a national newspaper this week that he had been offered, but declined, the job. The Board of United have strongly refuted the suggestion he, or anyone else, has been offered the post — and a source close to Walker confirmed this to Tribune Sport this week, saying…………
