Ardrahan unites in celebration

THE buzz and excitement around Ardrahan is mounting this weekend as the parish prepares for one of their own to be ordained a curate on Sunday – it will be the first ordination of an Ardrahan man in 50 years.

Martin Whelan (27), who will be ordained a priest by Bishop of Galway Dr. Martin Drennan at St Teresa of Avila Church in Labane on Sunday, is also the first priest in three years to be ordained in the Galway Diocese.

Martin was educated at Ballyglass primary school, Our Lady’s College, Gort and Gort Community School before he went to NUI Maynooth at the age of just 18 and he says he felt a calling when he was just 12.
