An attempt by a developer, to overturn a decision by city planners refusing permission for a Newcastle development, has been successful.

An Bord Pleanála has given the go-ahead to Ffrench O’ Carroll and Company to demolish a Newcastle apartment block and build 12 homes in its place.

The developer can now go ahead and demolish the apartments and chalet at 6 Newcastle Road.

Several local residents had objected and city planners rejected the project stating that it would be an overdevelopment of the site.

An Inspector with the Appeals Board agreed with City Planners that the development should be refused, but the Board rejected this recommendation.
