Gardai have issued a fresh public appeal to guesthouse owners in the Connemara area, in a bid to identify the body of a man washed up on a Lettermullen beach earlier this week.

The discovery was made at 2.40 on Thursday afternoon at Tra Dhireann in Huston, Lettermullen.

The man is described as white, 6 feet 2 in height and with a medium to strong build.

It’s believed the body may have been in the water for a number of days.

When found, he was wearing a Ralph Lauren dark blue and white check shirt and blue Primark jeans, with Nike grey and blue runners, sized 10.

State Pathologist Marie Cassidy completed a post-mortem last evening but details are not being released at this stage for operational reasons.

Sgt Fergus Gaughan of Carraroe Garda Station has appealed for information to any guesthouse owners in the Connemara area who may have encountered the man.
