TITANS finally got off the mark in the Men’s Division 1 at the weekend, with Jack Considine’s young squad running out deserved 8-point winners at home to LYIT Donegal.

Having gone close in some of their first five games – especially the 88-83 defeat at home to Ulster University last month – the city side broke their duck with Comhghall McCormack leading them to a 85-77 win in the Ballinfoile Castlegar Neighbourhood Centre.

It was a disappointing weekend for the other three Galway sides, as they all went down to defeat. NUIG Mystics’ unbeaten start to the Women’s Division 1 was brought to an end at home by Ulster University; while in the Men’s Super League, Moycullen are still waiting for their first win of the season after being edged at home by DBS Eanna. NUIG Maree lost on the road to league champions, Belfast Star.

Moycullen 82

DBS Éanna 84

A storming comeback from Moycullen fell just short when they reduced a 21-point second half deficit to a single score in the final minutes, only to see the game-tying shot bounce off target at the death, writes Cian Nihill.

It is the third time in five games that Moycullen have fallen to defeat by a margin of a single basket and coach John Cunningham must be wondering when his side are going to get the rub of the green in a tight finish.

Indeed, the sluggish start from Moycullen, where they allowed DBS Éanna’s sharpshooters Setfan Zecevic and Neil Lynch excessive space to connect on early three pointers, ultimately left the home side a mountain to climb that proved that little bit too steep.

The visitors led 31-16 at the end of the first quarter and Moycullen were staring a blowout in the face against a team brimming with confidence and riding high atop the Northern Conference of the Super League.
