The closure of a special treatment unit at St. Brigid’s hospital in Ballinasloe is being slammed as an “unacceptable move”.

Galway East T.D Ulick Burke says many vulnerable patients will be affected by the cost-cutting measure

The special unit provides up to 25 patients with therapies such as occupational and relaxation and allows them to participate in arts and crafts.

It’s understood that the dedicated therapy unit is to close at 4pm today [8/2] and staff working there will be redeployed elsewhere in the hospital.

Deputy Ulick Burke says many patients benefit greatly from the therapy and closing the facility at St. Brigid’s hospital will impact negatively on patient care.
