ANGER AT CITY MEETING ON ECONOMY
Date Published: 18-Jan-2011
A public meeting on the economy, organised by Galway West Fianna Fáil T.D, Frank Fahey, in the city last night [17/1] was abandoned amid safety concerns.
The meeting, at the Clayton Hotel, chaired by Aer Arann’s Padraig Ó Céidigh had to be abandoned as speakers hurled abuse at Frank Fahey and his guest speaker, Dr. Alan Ahearne.
Angry speakers slammed Frank Fahey for the inadequacies of Fianna Fáil and its economic policies as a heavy Garda presence surrounded the meeting.
Deputy Fahey was booed and quizzed about his property portfolio and Corrib Gas in Mayo.
NUIG economist and special advisor to the Finance Minister, Alan Ahearne, was asked to justify his salaried Government advisory job.
The Free Education for Everyone Group staged a walkout saying they felt ‘disrespected’ by the ‘complete waffle’ from Frank Fahey on the college fees issue.
