Anderson to play acoustic set at the Roisin Dubh

To coincide with the release of his new single, The Existential Vacuum, the acclaimed Dublin songwriter Anderson plays Róisín Dubh on Saturday April 30.

The show will reveal the stripped back origins of the songs on the more lushly arranged album, Patterns. Anderson will perform the entire record solo on piano and acoustic guitar.

Patterns emerged as one of 2015’s stand-out records appearing on a number of album of the year lists, including those of Nialler9, Tom Dunne (Newstalk), and Jim Carroll from The Irish Times.

Last year, Anderson’s short film, Door To Door Sales Will Save The Music Industry, went viral. It’s essential viewing. Anderson meets some kids who are bemused by the vinyl he’s selling. ‘What’s that – a picture?’ they ask. An older man buys the record and says he’ll put it next to Leonard Cohen.

But the film would be just a clever gimmick if Anderson didn’t have the tunes to back it up. He does, though – in spades. A singer-songwriter who has a knack for melody, Anderson’s music will appeal to fans of Paul Simon, Bob Dylan – or anyone who just enjoys a well-crafted song: Things We Have In Common is a beaut, with its lilting strings and hand-claps.

A gig to put to put in the diary. Doors 9pm, admission free.
