ALMOST 90 PERCENT JUMP IN GALWAY TROLLEY FIGURES

There has been an almost 90 percent increase in the number of people waiting on trolleys at University Hospital Galway over the past five years.
In August 2006, the trolley watch figure for UHG was 76, this increased to 554 in August this year, a jump of 86 percent.
The figures have been released by the Irish Midwives and Nurses Organisation.
Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe also saw a major jump in trolley figures in the 5-year period.
In August ’06, the figure was 2, but jumped to 97 this year, an increase of 97 percent.
The trolley figures come as 114 beds remain closed at hospitals and care homes in the city and county.
