Almost 800 dogs put to sleep in 2005

A total of 798 dogs were put to sleep in Galway in 2005 according to the latest statistics from the Department of the Environment.

328 of these were in the city while 470 were in the county.

National Spay week is underway at the moment and pet owners are encouraged to spay or neuter their cats and dogs to reduce the large numbers destroyed every year
