GARDAI in Ballinasloe have confimed to Galway Bay Fm News that investigations are “ongoing” regarding an alleged sexual incident involving an official said to have been working with a Fine Gael figure.

The incident is alleged to have happened during the Union of students in Ireland (USI) conference in Ballinasloe last march.

According to a report in “The Sunday Times” the alleged incident took place at the USI congress at the Carlton Shearwater Hotel between March 25th and 28th.

But a Garda source in Ballinasloe says that while investigations into the allegation are ongoing it would be “inappropriate” to make any further comment on it at present.

The report states that the man, alleged to be central to the investigations, had held several positions within Fine Gael and works closely with a politician from the party.

It also states that the man at the centre of the allegations had a position with USI but no longer holds it.

It is understood that the Fine Gael politician, with whom the man is associated, is not from the West of Ireland.
