All three Galway sides crash out of the FAI Junior Cup
Date Published: {J}
It was a weekend to forget for the Galway participants in the FAI Junior Cup as all three bombed out away from home.
Nine-man Athenry certainly gave it a good shot before they exited in Donegal against 10-man Milford United following a penalty shootout, while Corrib Rangers departed in Limerick, despite taking an early lead.
OLBC certainly gave it a good shot in Dublin against Trinity Corinthians, but – decimated by injuries – they lost by 3-2.
In the only Western Hygiene Premier Division game, NUI Galway gave themselves a margin of comfort at the lower end of the table as they opened up a four point gap over the bottom two, following a vital 4-1 win over Corrib Celtic in Dangan.
Broadford United 3
Corrib Rangers 1
Three minutes in and Barry Moran finishes off a Martin O’Connell delivery to put Rangers ahead. From there on however it was not so easy, for within two minutes Peter Rainey set up John Paul King for the equaliser.
The visitors continued to create the better chances, but twice Moran was denied by goal line clearances by McAuliffe and Clancy, while goalkeeper Greaney also played his part with some fine shot stopping.
Matters remained level at the break, but the West Limerick side showed they were no slouches either as they also kept Daragh Geraghty busy in the Rangers goal.
