Galway group, the Conquerors have seen boy bands come and boy bands go, surviving them all to become one of Ireland’s longest running outfits.

Now, the group will celebrate 45 years on the road with an all-star concert on Thursday next, August 25, at The Salthill Hotel.

The Conquerors formed in 1971, and had their first gig in Monty’s, Tarbert in Co Kerry. Since then, they’ve had numerous chart success, with one of the most famous being Baby Blue, which went to number one in the Irish charts in 1983. That was followed by several other hits, including the popular anthem, Galway are Back, recorded for the Galway hurling and football teams.

The Conquerors are still recognised as one of the top bands in the Irish music industry performing with leading names both nationally and internationally, and touring all over  Ireland, Europe and the USA.

When not touring they play endless amounts of corporate functions and weddings.

For their anniversary show in Salthill, the Conquerors will be joined by special friends, including top names in the world of Irish entertainment, among them Ronan Collins, Marc Roberts, Red Hurley, Gina, The Swarbrigg Brothers, Brendan Shine, Shaun O’ Dowd, Paddy Cole, Tony Kenny, Keith McDonald and maybe a few surprise guests.

The band are looking forward to seeing old and new friends as they mark this very momentous occasion.

The Conquerors will also be launching a new CD on the night titled, Through the Years.

■ Tickets, costing €25, are available from The Salthill Hotel and Opus 2, High Street, Galway, and Victoria’s Hair salon, Dublin Road, Tuam. Doors for the show will be at 7.30pm.
