All roads lead to Glenamaddy on Sunday!
IT’S not just Four Roads . . . it’s all roads . . . that will be leading to Glenamaddy on this Sunday (Sept. 29) for their Annual Ploughing and Agricultural Show which promises a host of new attractions this year at the local Equestrian Centre and surrounding farmland.
The event has grown into one of the biggest and best social and farming events in the West of Ireland, attracting thousands of visitors, competitors and exhibitors. Recent attendance figures have been close to the 6,000 mark.
Now in its sixth year, the show has grown considerably and now hosts the largest indoor commercial cattle show in Ireland, along with a very highly regarded pedigree competition and dairy section.
The event’s main sponsor is The Comer Group, led by Glenamaddy brothers Luke and Brian Comer – their generous support along with sponsorship from a large number of local, regional and large-scale businesses have set the show on a firm footing for success.
Ireland’s ploughing queen, Anna May McHugh, founder of the National Ploughing Championships, will attend this year’s event in Glenamaddy which is the first official National Ploughing Association competition of the 2020 calendar.
The music marquee and lively bar has always been one of the most popular parts of the show, and this year, live country band Jason Travers and Jenna Sloane will get the place swinging for a barndance, with line dancing workshops and best dressed line dancers competition.
The hugely talented young members of local Comhaltas group, Craobh Tom Morrison, and Irish and Sean nós dancers will also entertain the crowd on the day.
This year’s event will, for the first time, feature the Ward & Burke sponsored Young Entrepreneur competition, for secondary school students with a flair for invention, innovation and business.
A number of local secondary schools are entering teams, who are busily preparing their projects for judging on the day by some leading local names in business and third-level educators.
